This site is devoted to roleplaying games. So what is role playing? There are many answers to this question, but I have written a short RPG piece thatattempts to answer the question of what roleplaying is, or not. You will haveto decide whether the answer is satisfactory for yourself, but there are otherconsiderations to take into account here. Gaming is a hobby for most of the people who play role playing games and othersuch games. RPG games are very interesting, have a lot of creativityand imagination that has gone into the creation of the adventures for the role playingexperience. Many times the person who runs the game, called the Dungeon Master,GamesMaster, Storyteller, or any other number of titles, has gone to great lengthsto research one or more aspects of the adventure, also called a scenario, thathe or she is about to run. Some fans devote way too much time to playing online rpggames, but this is equally true of all hobbies where it turns into quite an obsession. One of the most positive aspects of the role playing games is that it is much likea social game, very much involving interaction between players and allowing thosewho play to develop their social and cultural skills. Free online rpg games teachrules, they teach a form of etiquette that is unique to role playing online (but whichtranslates well into other settings), and they teach the ability to think onone's feet and to deal with unexpected situations. There are plenty of otherpositive aspects of role playing games that one could talk about, but there arealso the negative sides. I will discuss the negative aspects in the 'Issues'section.
